Boat Insurance: What is Personal Belongings cover?

This option under the boat insurance policy can pay towards the cost of your or your family’s personal belongings which are lost or damaged while on board the vessel or in transit to or from your home. Personal belongings include household goods, furnishings and clothes that are used in connection with the Vessel.

You can choose specific limits to cover higher value items, plus a lump sum to cover your other belongings. You can also select what level of excess you wish to pay.

There are various exclusions which apply to this option, such as there being no cover for certain types of belonging (e.g. mobile phones, jewellery etc) and no theft cover for belongings unless they are stolen from a locked cabin, building or vehicle.

The Personal Belongings option is not available if your vessel is a houseboat.

The Policy Booklet contains full details about how this cover operates, including any exclusions or conditions. Existing policyholders can download copies of the applicable Booklet for their policy by following the guide described here.
